al-kala'a (the citadel)

This is the citadel built in the something something century by Salah ibn Yusuf Al-Din (or something like that), an Ayyubid sultan. The Ayyubid dynasty didn't last long, and began during the Crusades. Salah al-Din was the first Sultan and in English we spell his name Saladin. He was around the same time as Richard the Lion Hearted. The whole place is the citadel, and this is a view of the mosque within it, the only place I got to see before it closed.

A view of the mosque from within the marble courtyard. The ablution fountain is being restored, and so are a lot of the other parts of the place.

Me in front of the citadel. You can't see my hand so well, but I'm rocking the peace.

A mosque window.

It is what it is.

al-yaom al-owwal (the first day)

Some pictures that were on my camera from home. A painting I did before leaving and the tree collage I made earlier this summer.

Just a picture of Shari'a El-Mohamed Mara'ashly, the street I live on.

I took this picture of the Nile off a bridge from Zamelek island to Cairo.

Zamelek Hostel, where I live. We're all pretty sure it used to be an old hotel. Ken, my roommate, took a picture of it at the same time, and we got a warning from the security guards. Turns out this picture exists illegally; but we asked if we should delete them and he said no, so kwais.

Kaniisat Mara'ashly, an old Coptic church across the street from my hostel.
