al-iskandria

I went to Alexandria last weekend. Check it out.

Night traffic.

The sink in our room.

We had pretty windows, even if they were fake stained glass.

Qaitbey citadel, built on top of, and out of, the old lighthouse

Pompey's Pillar

Sphynx

Pompey's Pillar + Sphynx = this photo

A view of an apartment building from the pillar site.

An entrance to some ruins.

I saw this on our second morning there from my window and was sad. That's the Mediterranean.

Some stairs at Necropolis.

Alexandria has a sweet library. I didn't take many photos with my digital camera.

al-ahraam 'a-l-ihsina (the pyramids on horseback)

A pretty trite shot. We didn't get very close. We (Drew and I) mostly went to go horseback riding with our friend Zee, who we met at a club, and his friend Biradi. They're cool guys and we had a good time.

The horses had a thing for each other.

Me after a half hour or so of horseback riding. You can catch a pyramid or two behind me. They're freakin' huge.

Drew and Zee giving the good ol' thumbs up.

el-gouna

We took a three day trip to el-gouna, a resort town on the Red Sea, for our "orientation." There were probably two whole hours or orientation stuff and two days and twenty two hours of funshine. This place supposedly has the world's second largest coral reef. I didn't go scuba diving, so I can't really attest to that, but there was a lot of coral everywhere when you tried to swim. A lot of people got pretty badly cut up, and a few got urchin-ed on their feet. I managed to make it through unscathed, and once you get passed a certain point, you can swim worry free. I didn't get sunburnt either.

The whole town of el-gouna was built with this style of architecture.

A view from the balcony.

I dig the sight of bridges.

A sweet oversized chess set.

If you're not up for at least one sunrise, you're not taking full advantage of the beach.

I dug it.

On the road, I saw at least three wind farms, including one powering (at least in part) el-gouna. Sustainable energy in developing countries rocks my socks.
